PlyOW - Start of p90x - Day 1 (and 2)
As many know, I have struggled with shin splints for about 4 years now (maybe even a little longer). As soon as they seem to heal, I start running again, and they flair up. I have tried everything from inserts in my shoes, new shoes, running very little (once a week for a mile), improving mileage by only 10% week to week -- everything I try, they come back. I have finally gave in and concluded its because my calves are too weak! Because of this, and my want to get in shape, I have started p90x. For those that don't know what p90x is, check this out.
I started yesterday (March 1st) with the Chest and Back exercises. Needless to say, I have a long ways to go until I can keep up with the videos. Considering I haven't done hardcore physical activity since high school, I think i did pretty well -- especially considering I played flag football right before I started the video and was already exhausted. This video is basically a ton of different style pushups, pullups, and free weight exercises. The thing that got me was the repetition without much break. You moved from one exercise straight to the next -- I had to pause a few times to get some water. At the end of the video (and at the end of all the strength videos) is ab ripper x.. let's just say thats a very appropriate name. My abs were KILLING ME during that video. As I am sure you could guess, it's just a ton of ab exercises. Overall, between the chest and back and the ab ripper x, I think it lasted a little over an hour.
Tonight, I did Plyometrics.. shortened, it is Plyos.. from now on, I am calling it plyOW! I have never felt my legs burn so bad -- EVER! Keep in mind I played football, baseball, basketball, and ran track my whole life and consider myself fairly athletic. It was pretty intense. It is basically just a bunch of jumping around focusing on different areas of your legs. There are 4 or 5 sections with 4 exercises each. You do each exercise once (the first 3 are 30 seconds each, and the last one is a minute), then go back and do it again. Here's the catch -- once thats done, you get a 30 second water break and you go onto the next set. 30 seconds! Thats hardly long enough for me to go get my nalgene, unscrew the lid, take a sip before I heard Mr. Horton (the instructer) say "Ok get ready for __insert exercise here__". If anybody is interested in starting p90x, a word of advice, DO NOT go into the plyos thinking it won't be hard. I thought "psh, 30 seconds of continuous movement? EASY!".. Oh boy, was I wrong! Overall, I definitely liked it and can see how it is going to get me in the best shape I have ever been in. I am not going to lie, I was not able to complete all the exercises to the fullest extent -- about half way through, I had to start taking 10-15 second breaks so I didn't puke.
Tomorrow is the Arms and Shoulders video and Ab Ripper X. Considering my abs are still extremely sore from last night (and they got worked a little tonight as well), it should be interesting.
Day 1 photos coming soon -- as soon as I find that damned cord for my camera!!
They weren't joking..
They weren't joking.. it actually did snow last night - A LOT! (well, for Charleston standards)..
When they called for snow, I did not think it had been cold enough for it to stick to the ground, but apparently I was wrong. By 8 last night, the ground was completely covered with probably close to half an inch. It never stopped snowing from around 7 to 2 in the morning. When it finally did stop, there were about 3 inches -- thats just insane for a coastal city (keep in mind I am from the coast of California).
I took some pictures this morning of the snow around the house, and as soon as I can find the cord to transfer the pictures from my camera to my computer, I will post them (It could be a while).
New theme, snow, 3 day weekend
I just got done creating the basics for this theme. There is still a little tweaking to do here and there, but for the most part, its done! And the best part, it didn't even take all that long!!! Foresmo is going to be amazing once its done!
So the work around the office today was it is going to snow tonight. Of course, I did not believe them at all -- I mean, this is CHARLESTON, SC not Boone, NC. I wanted to get to the beach for a reason, and to see snow was not it! Well, as of 7pm, it is snowing. Of course, it's nothing like what the northeast has been getting this year, but we are expected to get 2 to 4 inches.. I'm sure that is some kind of record for the area.
On a side note, this is a three day weekend for me -- we get Presidents day off. I don't think I've got that holiday off since elementary school, but I am not complaining. it is going to be wonderful to be able to sleep in on Monday! On this wonderous 3day weekend, I am more than likely going to do some work around the house and some web stuff. Stuff is getting exciting for Redlink!
New blog
So Anthony and I have been working on Foresmo (okay, okay, mainly Anthony has been working on Foresmo ;) ) and its finally has enough to be somewhat useful!!
I am going to be updating this blog regularly to document my process with Foresmo, SolarPHP, and php in general. Just tonight, I learned quite a bit about Foresmo (and Solar for that matter) and helped with adding a pretty critical feature.
I am currently working on a project for a friend of mine. I am going to be using Foresmo to create a site to hopefully give him some more business in the mortgage world. I have some Foresmo modules to write for that, but it shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully, this project will also bring some business to Redlink as well.
Foresmo has a ways to go, but I am excited to see and make it progress further!
